Project name: “Lost Voices” Museum of African Languages
Location: Cradle of Humankind, Maropeng
Project Description:
Inspired by the history of the larynx- the fascinating and deeply inspiring part of the evolution of it is it was the losing of vocal folds that gave humanity the ability to speak.
The inspiration was to recognise the loss of something, and how something beautiful can emerge- just with these endangered languages, the intentional preservation and education of them and the cultures from which they stem can help preserve them for eternity.
The shape of the building is inspired by the larynx itself, and the cables which connect the entrance walkway are inspired by the vocal cords.
